Question 1:
2nd yr definitely was hard for me with all of those ologies. Life was hard especially after having a baby. There was a lot memorization and not too much practical. Although the third yr was very hard also b/c of all of the application up to that pt. I always said vet school got harder but at the same time funner, so there is that to look forward to.

2. Like many others have said, vet school is very hard and you should be very proud that you are there. You have to study the way that works for you and change what doesn't work. Many people would love to be in your spot so when you get that really low grade don't let it get you down. I had one term of straight C's after midterms and I turned them around to all B's and a few A's. Pay attention to medicine and especially dermatology as they are the most common things I see daily. The learning level post-graduation is insane of how fast things start to click and how comfortable you get doing things. There is always things to learn with our career.

3. I can say its all about Chuck Norris b/c he would have heard of the two fighting and would have come to show them how to regulate.`

Ok here it is.............
1. Second year was the hardest because I am more hands on type of person and the constant memorization of material was very challenging for me. I LOVED third and fourth year something to look forward to.

2. I also agree with Tori and Matt. It is hard to believe it has almost been a year since graduation, but I have grown so much in this short time. The learning curve in practice is striaght up and wonderful. I am also in a mixed animal practice with challenges around every corner. Oh, I wish I learned more about pigs (what a suprise!!!).

3. Of course it would be the Hulk just ask Mike G.
Matt Wesley Comment by Matt Wesley on April 20, 2009 at 7:35pm
I'll play...
1. Second year was the hardest for me. I'm not a memorize and repeat sort of person and all that binge and purge learning was demoralizing. Third year was tough, but more fun since I could see how it would apply in real life.

2. I'll agree with Tori on this one. I think I learned more useful stuff my first week in practice than I did in all those hours of class. I don't think it was about learing everything, rather where to look quickly and effeciently for needed information. VIN is a wonderful resource. Oh, and for those planning on doing mixed....therio really IS that important. (Maybe thats just because its spring and i spent all weekend dealing with babies.)

3. The hulk's a pansy. Look at me, I'm all green and ripped. Kong would eat him for lunch... but you know the chief export from chuck norris is pain.

1. 3rd year has been the toughest for my class mostly because of large animal medicine. Last term I think 6 or 8 people didn't pass the class, and the term before that there were a few more.

2. I would advise all students entering third year to study like hell for LA medicine--don't procrastinate and in the words of Schlipf "know everything since the second grade."

3. All I hjave to say is wtf?
Emily Kalenius Comment by Emily Kalenius on April 17, 2009 at 3:59pm
1. 2nd year was tough in the sense that I felt like we were in class and taking tests literally ALL the time. 3rd year, there were fewer hours in class, but a lot more interesting and applicable stuff to learn (i.e. medicine and surgery). IF you are in your 2nd year, Pay attention in anesthesiology and Toxicology -- those 2 subjects you will really use in practice!

2. I kinda have to echo Tori in this area - the first year out is when whatever you may have learned becomes cemented in your brain. One piece of advice -- either take good notes and keep them as a reference, or figure out a few textbooks that are really practical and useful (I really like the big purple book, "Clinical Veterinary Advisor" by Cote) and learn how to look things up quickly. Also learn how to use VIN - I'm on there every day at work looking things up.

3. When did Chuck Norris Enter the Fight? I guess if the Kong or Mr. Norris started making yo-mamma jokes about the Hulk's mother he may get mad enough to do some damage, but otherwise, I've never really been that impressed by him.

1. Second and third year were a toss-up for me. Second year because serious nobody really gives a rats ass if Klebsiella is a cocci or a rod. Third year, because I had reached my maximum sit in class time.

2. My advise to students is that you are going to learn more in the first year of practice than in the last three years of vet school (only it won't be super painful learning) so find a way to enjoy life a bit. Skip class if you need to, I did. I certainly have not been worse off for it. As for the hundreds of people who want to be where you are, well they probably couldn't pass physics anyway, so have confidence that you deserve it, and you are not crazy if you think it sucks really bad, it gets better when you are done.

3. Is this even a question, King Kong and the Hulk would run crying the second Chuck Norris drove up in his Dodge truck with all the lights on top.
Megan McLane Comment by Megan McLane on April 17, 2009 at 11:27am
1. 2nd year sucked....all that pathology made me want to give up!

2.Don't just memorize information to get the grade, try to learn it so when you see it again you understand it rather than just spit out a one word answer. Oh yeah and when you break down remember there are hundreds of people who would give anything to be in your place at that moment (this thought has also saved me during my internship, and will def. apply for the residency)

3.Chuck Norris....cause as they are fighting he comes in and beats down the hulk and tames king kong!

1. I thought that third year was actually the most challenging and the most fun all in one. It is hard to put everything together and then extrapolate. But that is the business and I recommend strongly to take good notes third yr to refer back to.

2. My advice to current and future students is bunker down, realize it is tough, don't complain because you are in a fortunate position in life and it is all worth it in the end.

3. I think that the Hulk is overrated and that ultimately king kong's teeth will be the deciding factor.
Rhonda Reaves Comment by Rhonda Reaves on April 16, 2009 at 8:32pm
Ok Dan, I'll join your little club.
1. I spent the most time studying during second year. The -ologies area rough.
2. My advice - vet school is supposed to be rough. Put in the time and the effort and you'll make it. Do your best to keep a good attitude; the people around you will appreciate it and it may even make life easier.
3. I think the hulk unless king kong was quick enough to get a choke hold before the hulk has a chance to grab a weapon. However, the point is moot because Chuck Norris would kick both their asses.
Dan Lewer Comment by Dan Lewer on April 16, 2009 at 8:10am
1. Hands down everyone - what is the most difficult year of veterinary school and why?

2. What advice would you give to current students, or students what advice would you give to other students?

3. Who wins in a fight, king kong vs the hulk?
