A Voice for Veterinarians in the U.S. House

Dr. Kurt Schrader wins election to Congress from Oregon

Dr. Kurt Schrader of Canby, Ore., will be the only veterinarian in the U.S. House of Representatives when he takes office next year.

The Democrat won in Oregon's 5th District, and he will be serving his first term in Congress. The U.S. Senate also will have one veterinarian in the 111th Congress, Dr. John Ensign, who is in his second term.

"We are very excited to have another veterinarian serving in the U.S. Congress," said Dr. W. Ron De… Continue

Any response to Biotech trading?

Hey everyone, with all of the scientific knowledge within the forum of NW Science I thought that I might be able to attain some insight.

The private Human Genome Project run by Celera was a company that everyone was under the impression would be a boom and a success. The compan is publicaly traded (CRA) and thus I looked into the trade prices / share and it was above $200.00 after the Wall Street Journal described their involvement in the Genome Project, and then the price fell out of the botto… Continue

My venture into "The Mist"

This past Saturday was a perfect example of always expect the unexpected. The morning was hectic while seeing cases that really should have been treated during the week but with everyone's very busy weekly work schedule their animal's health took a back seat until the weekend. Thus, Sat we worked through our clients as fast as possible that consisted of everything from abscessed teeth requiring surgery, dog fights requiring surgery, fulminate liver failure and whelping bitches, one of which requ… Continue

Took long enough heh? But I am bringing recruits including Rene (who you welcomed today) who is looking at OHSU and OSU for immunology and one other program. Also, I am hassling a few folks from OHSU and Yakima's OD school (med students).

I just saw a cat the had two small puncture wounds near its shoulder....when the tech went to scruff it the skin came with it. It basically had an abscess that went from the back of its ears to it's mid thorax....GROSSSSSSSSSS...the best part was the owners wanted to know if one surgery would fix it (oh yeah and the cat was also suffering from severe hepatic lipidosis and dehydration)..........kitty went to heaven once we talked about what needed to be done...I FREAKIN HATE OVERNIGHTS!!!!!!!

Hi Dan,

I don't really know where I have been. Is the little one here yet? How is Carly feeling? We all went to a valentine's tap dancing thing here in town that my boss's daughter was in, and at a perfect time when the theater was remarkably quite, Marshall sits up from his usual reclining position and in a loud voice says "MOMMY, I HATE THIS". So that was great. Anyway, I hope things are all well out there. I have a TPLO tomorrow, so that always makes for a really good day. I had a fractured femur on a Pom last week that turned out to be a giant pain in the rectum. I got in there and not only was the bone fragmented, but when I opened my small plate pack, the techs had filled all of my 2.0 screw slots with 1.8 screws. I was pretty happy since it was super hard to get my little tooth pick in alignment and had already drilled and tapped my hole for a 2.0 screw. Yep, pretty happy at that moment. All in all though, things have been pretty good out here. Are you large animal calls treating you OK? Alright, I had better let you go. Talk to you more later!
